Where to spend an extra night/day?

My wife and I have added an extra day to our trip to France. We will be spending 7 of those days in Paris. We will be staying in Rouen(1 night), Bayeux(3), Mont. St. Michel(1), Amboise(3), and Beynac(3). Where would you suggest spending an extra day and why? Neither of us can decide where to spend it so we thought we'd ask this bunch as you've helped us out already in the planning of our trip. Thanks for your input.

I would head to Bordeaux for a night, returning your hire car perhaps, and taking a train back to Paris.

add a night to one of the 1 night places so you don't spend the entire time there going/coming in that city. Less is more!

St. Emillion. I like David's idea of returning your car in Bordeaux and then taking the train back to Paris.

Beynac, much more to visit in the Dordogne than you could possibly see in three nights.

To the original poster:
It would help us give more useful advice, if you could clarify whether you want to return your car to Paris, or whether you're open to returning your car in a destination (as has been suggested above) such as Bordeaux and taking the train back to Paris?

We really would love to return the rental car at some place where we can catch a train back to Paris. We don't mind driving a bit if need be to get to the train station. With all the driving we'll be doing, we'd like to relax on the way to Paris. Plus, we've never been on a train before and we envision it as a lovely way to travel into the city.

I'll second Chartres! You can have a relaxing day and check out the light show in the evening, Chartres en Lumieres

Beynac because it is different from all the other places you are visiting which are similar. Personally would cut a day from Paris as well.

Not trying to be negative but rail entry into a large city is usually through the least attractive landscapes.

I'll 3rd Chartres if you haven't been there and if you don't plan on a day trip there while you're in Paris. It's wonderful and I found it an easy place to return rental car and train to Paris (about 1 hr). Spend the night so you can see the cathedral all lit up.
