Where to spend a few days between Madrid or Barcelona and Paris in late November

We will be in Spain in November, and are looking to head to Paris from either Madrid or Barcelona, stopping somewhere in between for a few days. We will be traveling by train. Any suggestions for a good base for several days in late November?

Montpellier, France is 3.5 hours to Barcelona and 3.5 hours to Paris. OTOH, it’s 6.0 hours to Madrid.

O ther cities that are worth a visit are Lyon and Bordeaux. I do not know what the train connections are to these cities from Barcelona, so that may be a factor. Peter
