I am a single traveler and plan to spend about a week in Avignon in June, taking excursions from there to Roman and other historical sites in the area. I am considering several hotels/apartments recommended by Rick: Autour du Petit Paradis Apts., Aux Augustins Apts, Hotel Midieval, and Hotel Mignon, but would consider others as well. I could afford to stay at any of the 14 hotels in Avignon recommended by Rick but don't like to spend a lot of money on lodging. I would appreciate any comments regarding where to stay in Avignon. LB
I stayed at Hotel du Parc twice. Inexpensive, clean and neat, family-run. It is next door to the park on the Main Street as you walk into town. Bus and rail transportation are convenient from there.
Traveled solo to Avignon several years ago and stayed at Hotel Boquier. Location was perfect; owners friendly and helpful; good breakfast.
I traveled solo to Avignon also and I loved my stay at Hotel Central. Within the city walls, convenient to the main train station and the shuttle bus to the TGV station, short walk to the Papal palace and the remains of the bridge. Nice little courtyard for breakfast or for relaxing in the evening with a glass of wine. Nothing fancy but very nice, friendly staff, easy on the budget < €100/night (breakfast not included), hundreds of good reviews on booking.com and TA. I highly recommend it.
Consider http://alombredupalais.com/. It is inside the city walls, directly overlooking the plaza on the Palace of the Popes. Parking onsite in the deck under the plaza. Affordable and very comfortable.
We stayed at Le Colbert last summer, and loved it. We were disappointed that we were only there one night as we enjoyed the room so much. I would be very comfortable staying there as a solo traveler as well.
