Where to return rental car when last stop is Paris?

We'll be coming to Paris from the Loire Valley and want to ditch the car (with thanks!) before heading into Paris proper. Is the best place to do this at CDG or does anyone have another suggestion? Many thanks.

Our last stop before Paris is Fontainebleau so we're returning the car there and taking the train into Paris. I would just suggest you find the closest return point to your last stop and return there. Especially since you're going to be on the other side of the city from the airport.

Some of this depends on where in the Loire Valley you will be leaving from to get to Paris. I happen to think that driving in Paris is not as bad as it is made out to be so I would return the car at Gare de Lyon, but if actually driving within the city limits is not an option, how about dropping the car at Orly as opposed to going past Paris to get to CDG? Are you planning on using mass transit or a taxi to get into central Paris?

We returned our car in Chartres when driving from the Loire. EuropeCar is near the train station, which is an easy walk to the cathedral. The train takes you to Gare Montparnasse in Paris.

It is not difficult to return in Paris center but you MUST know exactly where and what the entrance looks like. The returns are usually underground and not obvious to spot especially if you don't have a navigator.

We generally return at CDG coming from the North and Orly coming from the East or South these days and take a cab to the apartment, but we have returned at Gare du NOrd and also in central Paris along the Seine without difficulty.

I don't see the point in dropping well outside Paris and taking the train as it adds expense without that much added convenience.

We returned our car in Versailles for just the same reason. If you use Europecar the train station is about 100 meters away from the office.
