I'm escorting my lady friend to Paris in May and will propose to her there. After researching many possibilities, I've decided to do it after the candlelight dinner and before the fireworks while on tour at Chateau Vaux le Vicomte. Can anyone familiar with the chateau and gardens suggests a special secluded romantic spot for the proposal? I once thought atop the chateau overlooking the gardens would be special, but nixed it since we are both 68 years old and don't think our arthritic knees can handle the climb.
I agree, don't climb to the top for this kind of thing.
During the day, you couldn't miss--virtually any spot where you can see the garden or the building would be good: such as under the dome or on the nearby steps looking out at the garden; or at the end of the garden looking back at the mansion.
However, at night, it's more of a challenge: maybe just walk around and do it at a location where the spirit strikes you! Perhaps at the near end of the lake in front, the first side you would come to if you were entering the grounds from the parking, looking back at the lighted mansion, if they have it well lighted that night.
You wouldn't be alone in the Cupola, there are few benches in the gardens as they want to ban all picnicking; there is no obvious place inside. I would not choose to propose here -- find your own little spot in a Paris park -- the Luxembourg Gardens is full of them.
OO OO OO!!!
I can just picture you strolling the candlelit gardens in front of the candlelit chateau during one of the candlelit evenings and proposing there! It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. There are literally THOUSANDS of candles lighting the whole place and I can't imagine anywhere more romantic in all of France.
As you walk away from the back of the chateau out into the gardens, there are several grottos as you walk out toward the fountains at the far end of the gardens. I believe they are off to your left. We took shelter in them during a severe rain and thunderstorm there one day...they came out to rescue us in golfcarts! This might be a great place to stop off and pop the question! It's quite secluded but you still have a nice view of the gardens from there. Good luck!
Anita,
Thank you so much for such an excellent suggestion and also for verifying the site. I will update this thread in May with the results.
I'm so excited for you and can't wait to hear how it all goes!
Felicitations!
Could you skip ahead and hide the ring inside an urn in the parterre garden ?
That's too risky. I will be carrying a Rick Steves tote bag with an inside pocket to properly conceal the ring. My adult daughter is helping me shop for the ring this week.
