We are flying into Barcelona and plan to meet our daughters who are finishing studying abroad in Paris. We will all fly out of Barcelona a week later. Where is a good place to meet up that would be an easy train ride (no transfers) for the girls and a fun first stop for a few days?

AVIGNON - direct trains from both Barcelona (4hrs) and Paris (2hrs 45mins).

The direct TGV leaving Paris at 7:15 serves these destinations:
Paris Gare de Lyon 07:15
Nîmes 10:09
Montpellier Saint-Roch 10:37
Narbonne 11:30
Perpignan 12:09
Figueres Vilafant 12:32
Girona 12:49
Barcelona Sants 13:30
Those are not the only cities with direct train service from Paris, but it gives you an idea of some stops closer to Barcelona.
The girls could also fly pretty cheaply from Paris to Barcelona and you could all head out from there; see www.skyscanner.com.

Avignon was my first thought as well...straight shot via train from both Paris and Barcelona. Lots to see and do around there!
