Landing at CDG at 7:30AM on Sunday, April 19th. Would like to take the train from Terminal 2 to a town where I can spend the rest of the day and night. I had thought of Reims, but it will require one or two changes depending on the time. I will have a large suitcase and will be jet-lagged so that doesn't sound relaxing. Would prefer not to go into Paris. Can anyone suggest a town that might have sights of interest and nice lodging within easy reach of CDG by train or other public transportation? Thank you for your help.
You can take the TGV directly from the CDG Airport Station, located beneath Terminal 2, to the Champagne-Ardenne Station, located just south of Reims. It takes only 30 minutes to get there (versus 1.5 hr by car). We did this trip this past May. Not sure where your "two changes" statement came from. Upon arrival at the Champagne-Ardenne Station, you can take a taxi or a tram into Reims. It is only about a 10-minute cab ride to the city center.
Thank you, Robert. I think its because its a Sunday that there are not as many direct trains. And the advice is to allow 3 hours from landing time when looking at the train schedule. But the advice to take a tram or cab from Champagne-Ardenne would save some time.
Since I am not locked into Reims, I am wondering if there are other destination suggestions that might have more frequent service.
Lyon or Tours or Nimes
These are all your options

Thank you for the wiki link. Never thought of looking there.
Hi,
Chartres. Close by. Nice city.

Where are you headed after this rest day/night? Perhaps we could suggest a place that would link easily to the next step in your itinerary.
Ultimately we do want to move in the direction of Reims because we are going to Verdun. However, that could be at the beginning or end of our trip. We also plan to visit Burgundy and Provence. I had thought that maybe something like Amiens would be easily reachable from the airport area, but that does not seem to be the case either. I think that it will be easiest to come into Paris on the RER, spend the night, and then take a train from there, The trains from Paris are more frequent trains and they are direct.
