When will train tickets between Paris and Strasbourg go on sale for later in December?

We will be in Paris and heading to Strasbourg on December 22nd, 2026. Tickets are not on sale yet, but we have been told to buy them asap because the prices jump very high and might sell out. Does anyone know when tickets go on sale? We also need train tickets from Strasbourg to Colmar on December 23rd and those are not on sale yet either. We have heard that you can buy the Strasbourg to Colmar tickets at the station, but I fear they will be sold out. Any advice would be welcome! Thank you!

And do try to buy them as soon as they go on sale. They're dynamic, as flight tickets are.

Strasbourg to Colmar tickets at the station, but I fear they will be
sold out.

If trains regularly sold out months in advance they would be useless. Luckily they don't. Most people travelling by train buy their tickets close to departure.

Do the following: Look up on www.sncf-connect.com for tomorrow, a week from now and a month from now. Look at prices and availability. You'll get a good idea of how this works.

Strasbourg to Colmar is a regional train. Used by commuters, shoppers, school children. These tickets do not sell out. Tickets are also flexible, so you can easily decide on the spot to spend more or less time in Colmar.

In fact, there are a few very, very low price tickets when they are loaded into the computer. These bargain fares are usually gone within minutes. After that the fares go up slowly.

Strasbourg to Colmar is a commuter train that goes every 30 minutes mostly. and at least every hour. It never sells out, but you might have to stand if there are no seats. Go outside normal commuting hours and should not be crowded.

prices don't jump very high. They start with the normal price and offer some discounts, on the long distance TGV trains. The most you will pay is the normal price and they, while not bargain basement, are not sky high. You'll be able to get a seat - there are trains all day long between Strasbourg and Paris, at least hourly, often more often. It isn't like Amtrak with one train every few days.

The trains to Colmar are simple commuter trains, one price that doesn't change. You can get your ticket as you enter the station and get on. They can't sell out. They sell tickets until nobody else wants one. If you get to the train late and everybody is already in a seat (if they have luggage of bags or feet on a seat ask them to remove them - seats are for people not stuff) some people may stand for a few minutes. But you can get on.

Thank you so much everyone! I will keep checking about 4 months out. Thank you again!

Looking at two months versus one month from now I see pretty much the same prices. This is a train, not a Taylor Swift concert. It is not as if the whole world is waiting for tickets to drop and then snatches them all up :-)

SNCF usually opens up booking for a whole season on the same date. So it is not that tickets become available 4 months before travel.

If you want to be informed when tickets go on sale just go to www.sncf-connect.com and look up Paris to Strasbourg for December 22. You will not get any trains, but in stead a form where you can enter your email address. You will then get a mail once it is know when sales open. Last year winter bookings only opened on November 12th.

Hi, kbnickel, I've been doing some research on this as I am heading from Strasbourg to Paris by train on Dec. 9, and found that SNCF tickets beginning December 13th are released as a block and will go on sale beginning September 30th, 2026. You can check the following website for more information, but that's pretty much what it says: https://www.sncf-connect.com/en-en/help/ticket-sales-opening

My sister and I are traveling together, so we're very excited about heading for the Christmas markets! I'm assuming that's why you were there as well. Have a great trip!

the TGV tickets from Paris to Strasbourg during the Christmas markets season indeed can get very expensive (well, expensive to my wallet). You are very smart to be thinking of this ahead of time and being ready to purchase as early as you can.

(The Christmas markets create a whole different supply and demand dynamic than reigns over the price of TGV tickets between Paris and Strasbourg. The price - and literal availability - of a ticket from Paris to Strasbourg in October vs September has little to no bearing on what a person would find if they looked in late November — or even late October — for December 22 tickets.)

So - well done, you, for thinking ahead. I hope you have a wonderful time - the Christmas ambiance there is pretty spectacular !
