“ I will test the smart watch theory on my trip. I think I will purchase the tickets on my watch and then try to use my phone when there isn't anyone behind me”
You don’t need to test it, because this won’t work. When you buy the tickets in the app, the first thing you need to do is choose on what device you wish to load the tickets. When you pick Watch, you can only access the ticket on your watch. When you pick phone, you can only access the tickets from your phone. It clearly says this before you make the choice and that’s how it works in practice.
When I was in Paris during the Olympics, I used a Navigo Monthly on my IPhone. I also have an Apple Watch, and the ticket was not visible in the wallet on my watch.
This can actually come in handy, because it will allow you to load different products on different devices. Let’s assume you’re in Paris for 5 days. On days 1, 2, 4 and 5 you only take the metro occasionally, so you can get by with a carnet of 10 tickets. On day 3 you plan to take so many metro trips that a day pass works out cheaper. You can then load a carnet of tickets on your Phone and use that on day 1, 2, 4 and 5, and a day pass on your Apple Watch to use on day 3.
Or if you’re traveling with a child who doesn’t yet have their own phone, use your Watch to load your tickets on and your phone for his/her tickets.
