Hi. We'll be driving from Saumur to Poitiers on Monday, May 1st.
I've heard that everything is closed on May 1st; Mondays are common days for museums to be closed, anyway.
What should we expect? We want to plan ahead.
Thanks very much.

I can't speak to Poitiers specifically, but in Lyon everything is closed except a few boulangeries. It's the one day of the year there's no public transport (in Lyon; it does run in Paris).
Things were dead in Nice, too. No transportation into town from the airport except a very few taxis.
Thank you clawsmith and acraven. The owner of our chambres d'hôtes told me the names of two brasseries that will be open, so I won't starve (I think I'm a reincarnated golden retriever: food first). I'm making a map of dolmen and menhirs that are open 24/7, as well as public sites with pretty views. I've been in France on Christmas (Bordeaux) and Easter (Toulouse) when lots of places were open, but May Day sounds like a day when the country shuts down.
May 1 assume everything is closed unless you know otherwise; it is like Christmas Day.
For restaurants call to reserve.
Poitiers is a very pretty place. You'll have architectural eye candy to enjoy, at least.
Most megalithic sites are randomly scattered about on both public and private land (perhaps you're aware of that already) and don't have any sort of gating or admission (I'm a big fan of megalith hunting in France). It's too bad May 1st is a Monday because that is a day when the outstanding megalithic complex of Bougon is closed. If you're a fan of megaliths and you're in the area of Poitiers then this is an absolute must visit:
https://tumulus-de-bougon.fr/tumulus/
Wiki is a good place to search for megaliths: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sites_m%C3%A9galithiques_de_la_Vienne
And the Megalithic Portal website is always a good resource: https://www.megalithic.co.uk/search.php?query=&country=6
Thank you to everyone. Mystique, I've used the Megalithic Portal and will check out the wiki one you referred to. Bourgon looks terrific. We might be able to get there on the 2nd although that's the day I hope to be able to get into the churches in Poitiers. The only other time I've visited the city was on a Monday, so I'm eager to see the insides of churches that were closed then.
