What to do if test positive before returning back to US

Our family is planning to leave for Paris in a week. We are a family of three and we are all vaccinated (mom, dad and a 14 year old). We are debating if we should cancel the trip. The one question we don't have an answer is that if we were tested positive before flying back to the US, where would we be able to stay for the quarantine? Are there hotels or some amenities that will take people who tested positive and let them stay for the 10 day quarantine period?

Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The post won’t really help us since we don’t have any apartment in France. With a positive COVID test, we are wondering which hotel or place will take us and let us spend 10 days.

Has there been an over reaction to the possibility of testing positive while on vacation? If you test positive with an Antigen test, the next thing to do is schedule a PCR test.

Positive test results will give you an outline of what you need to do. There are hotels, apartment hotels (Adagio or Citadine for example) or vacation apartments where you can stay. Plenty of places deliver food, i.e. Ubereats, Deliveroo, Eataly, and many others.

SOS Médicin will, very inexpensively, send a doctor to your hotel/apartment.

Covid is not the only thing that could medically disqualify you from traveling.

You just do what you would normally do if you needed a hotel room for ten days at the last minute, which is call around, check booking.com, etc. If you can't bear the risk and cost of having to do that or being away from home for the extra days, then maybe reconsider the trip. There are no designated quarantine accommodations in Paris like there are in some other locations. It's not like what happened to some people I know who tested positive in Greece and were put up in government-provided accommodations and provided three meals per day.

On nearly every trip I have taken to Paris, about a week prior to departure from here, I check availability on various other hotels/apartments and make note of what else is possibly available in the event that the accommodations that I had booked were unacceptable for whatever reason. I started doing this after a long-ago trip with my mother where the hotel we booked was under construction when we arrived and we spent a day trying to find another place to stay. (this was pre-internet, and obviously would be a little easier now, but the precaution has always made it on to my pre-trip to-do list.)

When I go to Paris in late January, while I have no concerns about the apartment we have rented from a long-standing reputable agency, I plan to do the same thing but for the week following our trip in the event of needing to quarantine (but I am thinking positively that this will not happen :-). The week before departure, I will check availability in a handful of apartments/apart-hotels and have their information on hand should I need the additional accommodation. Might still take an inquiry or two at that point but at least it will minimize the stress.

Not to mention, you have tons of Paris gurus here who would gladly help you with your request. Hotels in Paris NEED occupants. So many are still closed, so I think you could find something with no problem. And then food delivery is as easy as can be. Ubereats, deliveroo, etc, etc.

Thank you for all the help. I love the idea of reserving the hotel for 10 days ahead and then cancel if not needed. We just didn't know that hotels allow for people who tested positive to stay for quarantine. This is very helpful to know.

Thanks for asking this question, @shi.june40. I was wondering about this also. I have an additional (and very naive) question to add: under the quarantine rules in France, are you required to stay inside your accommodation for the entire 10 days, or is it permitted to go outside for exercise for a period of time each day? Assuming that one wouldn’t go into any shops, etc — but just wanted to take a short walk, fully masked?

All necessary information is given when one receives a positive PCR test. It is also supplied, in English, on the TousAntiCovid app.

No, you are supposed to stay inside during isolation.

It's isolation, which means you've been diagnosed.
Quarantine is when you are separated from others with no diagnosis.
