Well, you don’t have to miss the pickpockets in Paris

. . . because they are still around.

Tonight I got spat at by one (in my home metro station on Line 1) because I had foiled his attempt to pick a woman’s purse by alerting her to him.

It WAS during curfew hours, I wonder what “motif” he had ticked off on his attestation?

I suppose any stranger within 2 meters/ 6ft, is worthy of suspicion of nefarious acts.

They can be ruthless on crowded train cars during normal times. Sounds as if they're desperate given the paucity of tourists.

Not surprising.

Sometimes it pays off living in the hinterlands.

Oh Kim....so very sorry you had to put up with that.

I had actually wondered recently what was going on with the Roma petition girls during this time.

He did WHAT to you?
Lemme at him. Mess with our Kim and it won't be pretty.

Kathy, will that be a valid reason to get us into France? If so, count me in!

Wow, that is just crazy! It would be interesting to see what he had indicated on the attestation. Great that you could help out a fellow Parisian. They are honestly so crafty.

I am pretty sure this guy wasn’t worried about availing himself of any attestation - although if he did bother, I think Ufkak nailed what he would have selected !

Kathy, I once thought the same thing until "him" turned out to be over 6 feet tall and around 240 pounds of muscle. Than I wasn't so brave.

Well done for stepping up to help; but I'm so sorry you were spat at.
Did he actually take his mask off to spit on you, or was he not even wearing one?
Keep safe.

Good for you. Pickpockets are terrible in Paris, starting when you take the RER from CDG. Wear a moneybelt

SJ — I don’t think any mask was ever involved— I can’t picture it in my mind’s eye.

Luckily I was just far enough away from him that the trajectory of the spit fell before it hit me. Yuck !!!

Boy, that was disgusting, and socially criminal on more than one level. Glad you avoided the droplets. He certainly wasn’t adhering to Covid19 precautions, with no mask, or justifiable reason for being out, or maintaining a safe distance, unless his theiving arm’s longer than 2 full meters.

Maybe he’ll eventually pick “something” from someone, a virus, perhaps? Any chance a court would sentence him to having his salivary glands cut out? Punishment would fit the crime, and prevent further expectorations.

Anyone who claims that pick pocketing isn't a violent crime is in denial. Someone who puts his/her hands on your body, in your clothes, against your will, to take your property, is a violent criminal.

I'm sorry Kim.
If he misjudged his trajectory and the distance between you he is what would be classed in U.S. high school sports a mere Junior Varsity player .
He will never make it to the Olympics w that skill set.

Others might classify him as a “hack.”

Or a Spitting Image of evil.
