Well, yes…there ARE Easter/Spring Markets!

Imagine my surprise today when the taxi dropped me near my hotel in Colmar and had to stop at a barricade at the end of the street! Street closure due to a small Easter/Spring market! The old city is decorated with flowers and bunnies and Easter eggs! There are 2 small market areas with what I think are likely the small chalets used for the winter market set up. Some vendors are focused on springy themes, others are what you might find at any craft fair.

Still, it was a fun surprise! The sun is shining and everyone seems happy to be outside enjoying themselves.

According to the posters it runs from April 8 to May 1. There were apparently some special concerts last week in the run up to Easter if anyone is planning a trip next Spring. They are not as extensive as what I imagine the Christmas Markets are but they add a festive feeling!

You guys know me too well! Kim and Kate made me drink a nice chilled rosé yesterday and now I’ve got a taste for it. Yes, the pale pink goes with the whole spring theme and tastes fine with a veggie burger!

There are many market traditions all over Europe. But it seems like North American tourists only have discovered the Christmas markets so far…

Hi Pam!!! Fun for you! We discovered an Easter/Spring market in Porto today and I had a vegan burger for dinner and thought of you:)

Valerie! Fun that you found one in Porto! Glad you thought of me with the veggie burger. Mine was slightly weird yesterday as it was mostly carrot.

I guess the Christmas Markets are what are marketed to the US travel market but such fun to happen onto one…or any local festival for that matter.
