Welcome Pickups in France?

Hi,
I got introduced to Welcome Pickups in Greece when I made arrangements with the hotel for an airport transfer. I liked the service so I used it again for another airport transfer when leaving Greece. It's like Uber/Lyft, but I think in Greece the drivers are taxi drivers and government regulated (not exactly sure).

In any case, heading to France and it looks like the app and service is available in that country as well. Has anyone used them in France? I'm looking for airport transfer from BOD to Cognac and the price is the lower than what the hotel is going to charge (~$350 (Welcome Pickups) vs 410 EUR - hotel). And I looked into another company and they are charging 390 EUR.

Thanks,
Nina

I have no personal experience with them, but I have a friend who uses them exclusively in her travels. She used them for the ride back to CDG in Paris in March. They showed up on time and texted her when they were 5 or 10 minutes away.

Anecdotal, but there you go.

I used them in May for a transfer from CDG to my hotel in Paris and they were great - on time, waiting for me at arrivals, and friendly driver. I've used them in a number of other cities in Europe and have been very pleased with their service and pricing.

I think in Greece the drivers are taxi drivers and are
government-regulated (not exactly sure).

Welcome Pickups is a Greek company based in Athens, and indeed the situation in Greece is different because drivers other than official taxis with a taxi license are prohibited. (But apps are allowed.) So when you booked a taxi in Greece with Welcome Pickups (or Uber or Lyft), you got an official taxi.

In France, when it comes to leaving major cities, as you want to do with your Bordeaux-Cognac trip, it's preferable to book a real taxi and, above all, book it yourself. A hotel will usually charge extra, just for making a phone call to a taxi company.

Taxi fares are fixed by the government and local authorities. In Bordeaux, the fare is €2.08 per kilometer from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The return trip to Bordeaux without passengers is included in this fare (fare C).

Given that it's a trip of approximately 130 km, I'll let you do the math. You'll need to add a few euros (pick-up fee, airport surcharge, tolls, etc.)

Thanks JoLui! Helpful feedback! Internet search came up with various taxi companies in Bordeaux. Is there one official one? Looking to prebook. Thanks!

I couldn't give you a specific company name I know, as I have my own car and never take taxis in France.

On the Bordeaux city website, you'll find some useful information and a list of official taxi companies with their contact details. (Sorry, it's in French.) Some of them provide an online price estimate for your desired journey.

Another one that isn't mentioned:

Uber, Lyft, and similar services aren't called taxis in France, but VTC :Vehicule de Transport avec Chauffeur (Private Hire Vehicle).
