Hi - I am working in Strasbourg for a few days wrapping up Friday at noon on March 24th and then need to be in Madrid by end of day Sunday March 26th for a few days of work. I have been to Strasbourg before so would like to go someplace new. Any suggestions on what to do? My preference is smaller cities/villages, not interested in Paris on this trip. I am considering renting a car for the weekend. The other trick is that I need to end up somewhere near an airport so I can get a direct flight to Madrid Sunday night. Thanks very much. Kate

How about Alsace? It's beautiful driving to the villages (we followed driving routes in RS France). Colmar is lovely night and day. You could drop the car and fly out of Mulhouse-Basel on Sunday (I didn't check the schedule).

The villages of the Alsace wine road nearby are lovely; we also enjoyed an afternoon cruise on the Rhine down through the picturesque towns and castles of the part of the Rhine near Strasbourg. Plenty to do very nearby. We did our Rhine cruise and then drove on to Strasbourg.
