We will be spending a week in Bordeaux with our 10 year old son the first week of July. Obviously, my intent to visit all of the wineries now has to shift ;p We already plan to do 1 day trip to Paris but would love other ideas of what to do in/near Bordeaux with a "tween". Looking into doing a day trip to the beach as well - any suggestions on that are welcome, too. He likes history, but only there's only so much "touring" he will handle. Suggestions of off the beaten path sort of things, cool "local/near-local" things to see or do, and anything else you have to throw in would be great! Thanks!!
If you will have a car, there is a nice beach at Arcachon, and it might be fun for a 10year old to ascend the Dine du Pilat. Neither is far from Bordeaux.
You do realize that the fast train TGV to Paris is 3 + hours there and 3 + hours back. Not really suitable for a day trip, especially with a child!

It's only 2 hours each way, although I still think that it's too much for a day trip.
Thanks Robert, was googling quickly! But definitely not a day trip1
