Attending Montpellier (Brissac) with elderly mother where we will spend three nights in June. We have roughly 8 days. Looking for a charming place to spend the remainder of our time. Probably be flying in and out of Paris. Have visited Paris in the past and done the usual sight seeing. Hoping for some interesting suggestions.
Head west! If you travel along the southern coast there are many areas that are beautiful and not overly touristy. We've spent a lot of time in Pezenas and visited many places in the surrounding area. Narbonne, Beziers, Sete, Collioure, the Cevennes, the Gorges of Herault, St Guillaume le Desert. The whole area is covered with vineyards there are many ancient "village circulade" that are really unique. The beaches down that way are really nice as well. The Canal du Midi runs through that area. It's lovely to walk or bike along the old tow paths. In June the weather shouldn't be too hot yet!
If you're not planning to visit Paris, or only on one end, then I suggest looking at plane tickets that connect all the way to and from the main cities you decide to visit. That's generally faster, cheaper, and easier than booking separate connections by train or unaffiliated airline. Delta/Air France/KLM will probably offer the most connections around France, but other major airline partner groups (such as American/British) will also have connections to more of France and at least seasonal service to Montpellier airport.
Thank you for the very interesting and helpful suggestions!
