Weather in France in October and what to pack

We leave for Paris on Sept. 23rd and are in Paris until the Sept. 27th. Then we go to Southern France near Perpignon for a week. Then to Arles, Nice area for two weeks. I am packing light and with clothes to layer. Should I pack more long sleeved shirts because of weather or a combination of short/long sleeve shirts. Also, someone told me to dress a little nicer than we do in the Pacific NW. (like something other than Columbia and Nike shirts) and to dress up to go to Monaco. What does that mean? Thanks for any tips. Carolyn

Carolyn,l I can tell you is it is sweltering in Paris today and for the last week. There was a shower this morning and I was hopeful it would cool down but no luck with that. I haven't been to your other destinations.

In terms of temps, it sounds as though you have it about right. I'd bring one light long-sleeved shirt and layers. Expect some passing showers. It can be quite warm even in October, but there is considerable variability, so the layers strategy is good.

As for fashion, I'm not so sure, and it depends on what you plan to do in Monaco. If you bring simple clothes you can often dress them up with accessories (a scarf, a tie of you are a guy) that do not take up much room.

Monaco casino absolutely requires men to wear a jacket and tie, I believe.

I think you should bring more then one long sleeved shirt...and I wouldn't worry about dressing up unless you are planning on fancy restaurants..

In Monaco there is a dress code for the casino.. but if you are not going there do not worry about your clothes so much.. you are a tourist.. you will look like a tourist.. be comfortable and practical.

I have been to Paris many many times... unless you are going on business.. or plan on some Michelin starred dinners... do not over think your wardrobe there.
Nice jeans are acceptable in most restaurants for dinner.. wear with a button up shirt , or if lady a nice blouse and scarf.

A rain/wind jacket is a VERY good idea.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I think I'm doing ok with what I've packed. We would like to experience the casino in Monaco, so I asked my husband to pack a tie. He has a nice sweater he could wear with the tie, so don't know if they will let him in, but we'll give it a try. i have a little rain jacket/wind breaker that i am packing. Thank you again . Carolyn
