My wife and I are visiting France in October and will be staying in Paris at the beginning and end of our trip. In between we have a week to travel elsewhere. Before finalizing plans for that week we were wondering what folks had to say about the weather, and Fall foliage in particular. What should we expect in the Loire, Burgundy, and Alsace regions from 10/17 to 10/24? What about the Alps near Chamonix?
We were in Paris and Dijon last October. It was beautiful. Coming from Phoenix we loved the fall temperatures and the walking thru piles of leaves everywhere. Burgundy was amazing, beautiful scenery, fields of golden vineyards. Do a wine tour, see the town of Beaune. Visit Dijon if you can, it's just lovely. We didn't have a car and only traveled by train which did limit us a bit. Enjoy!
As above for Burgundy, though many moons ago for me. I caught Alsace mainly in September leading into the beginning of October, it was delightful, still green as I remember. Historically, Alsace is one of the drier areas.
