I will be working in Switzerland for 3 weeks at the end of February. I will be staying in Lucerne but working from Rotkruetz. I would like to take a weekend trip to Strasbourg. I will take the train from work on a Friday after work from Rotkruetz and stay in Strasbourg until Sunday afternoon before heading back to Lucerne. It looks like it's about a 3 1/2 hour train ride. I will be by myself so I am planning on staying at a hotel near the train station. Looks like there are lots of choices. What I am wondering is if Rick has a book that features Strasbourg and if he has a Strasbourg walk? I only have his Paris book and I also have his Switzerland book and really enjoyed doing the Bern, Zurich and Lucerne walks in that book so hoping there's a book that has a Strasbourg walk too? If not are there any other resources you know of? Thanks in advance!
Perhaps email the Tourist Information Center in Strasbourg? As I remember, it's right off the main plaza. You will enjoy this wonderful town. I'd also look into an all day wine tour of the surrounding towns. The company we used doesn't seem to be in business anymore.
Enjoy!
The train station is a 10-minute walk to Petite France in the old town. Unless budget requires you to do so, I would aim for a hotel across the canal from the train station, i.e. in the old town. Even though the train station area is quite good already, it will be more charming there.
I googled "Strasbourg walking tour map", and several options to look at came up. Maybe try some YouTube searches, too? Also, try typing something like Strasbourg walks or walking Strasbourg in the Search bar at the top of this page. I found an RS article mentioning some highlights that you could probably find on Google maps. You may also find trip reports from others describing how they spent time.
Just wondering, will you work from Rotkreutz? as opposed to Rotkruetz?
The old town in Strasbourg is on an island. It’s about a 10 minute walk from the train station to the center of the island. Or you can take the tram.
The old town is very compact. You could wander allllllll over it in a day easily. We were there for the Christmas markets and found it very easy to explore.
We stayed at the Hotel Beaucour in Strasbourg. We took the tram from the train station, maybe 5 minutes. Very easy!
Strasbourg is covered in the France guidebook. There is a walk.
I went to Strasbourg and Colmar after spending a few days in Switzerland in August 2022. I definitely recommend it.
