want to stay in or VERY NEAR winery Toulouse armagnac Nimes Uzes Montpelier etc.
We had several lovely nights staying on site in vineyards in Italy and would like to try to the same in the Armaganc region, Uzes, Nimes, Toulouse, Montpelier.Can anyone reccoment some possilbities- in the non-luxury price range.
IsdToulouse a place where we could stay for 1-2 nites and sample local Armagnacs?
PS- for better or worse my husband greatly prefers Armaganc to Cognac...

Of the cities you name, Toulouse is closest to the Armagnac region in Gascony but still a little ways away. Toulouse itself is a fairly large city. I'm sure you'll be well supplied with tastings of Armagnac but you'd be nowhere near vineyards.
If you stay in Pezenas or Beziers in Herault, just west of Montpelier, this area is filled with beautiful wineries some of which are quite unique. My favorite is Abbaye de Valmagne, an ancient monastery that is now a winery. The main church is now used for the huge oak casks, each of which fills the side chapels. If you are there at the right time they hold concerts in this space that are amazing. There are many small, family-run wineries in this area and the town of Pezenas is my favorite place to stay. It's very old and typical of this area of France.
