Hello,

A lot of posters have used Paris Walks, http://www.paris-walks.com.
Enjoy.
We used Paris Greeters and had a wonderful woman who took us around Ille St. Louis/Notre Dame area. She was terrific - and it's free ! We wanted to buy her a glass of wine or coffee, but she did not have the time available. Would definitely use them again to look at other areas.
I can also recommend Paris Greeters. They are a network of volunteers who love to share Paris with visitors. You register online, indicating your interests, and one of their guides contacts you directly to arrange the details. The guides do not accept tips, but might accept coffee or a glass of wine. There is an opportunity to make a voluntary donation when you register - I gave 10€.
I did "The Two Islands" tour with Paris Walks last month. The guide was marvelous and it was a very interesting tour. I'm sure I'll do more tours with Paris Walks next time I'm in Paris.
I've used Paris Greeters twice and highly recommend them. I plan to use them again in November. Be sure to submit your application a couple of weeks before you arrive in Paris.
There are also excellent books containing self guided walks. We used a good one by Frommer and particularly enjoyed an architectural walk in the 16th. I found several on line and used one for a graffiti walk in the 19th many years ago starting at the highest point in Paris (Telegraph metro) and winding downhill. https://janettravels.wordpress.com/2010/07/02/graffitti-street-art-vandalism/
The URL for the map is in the article; of course it has been 6 years and so graffiti/street art changes, but areas that are sites for it tend to continue to be sites, with changing paint.
I'll echo the recommendation for Paris Walks. One of the best features is that you don't have to sign up ahead, just get the schedule (poster above gave you the link) and show up. They go rain or shine but you don't have to! Guides are very knowledgeable and you see a lot in a short time, ending up somewhere other than where you started, but always close to a Metro station.
I've heard good things about Paris Greeters, and we tried to sign up with them on our last trip but never heard back. We might not have given them enough lead time.
I can recommend both Paris-Walks.com and Paris Greeters, since I've used them both multiple times and always had great results.
The Paris Greeters walks are more personal since it's just you and your guide, who bases the walk on what YOU want to do/see. I've done walks with them where I learned about a new-to-me area of Paris, a "foodie" walking tour where we gathered goodies and then had a picnic, also having the guide translate a museum tour into English for a group of friends. They're very helpful.
Paris-Walks.com offers a multitude of walks on various subjects - history/WWII/gardens/art/literature/fashion/etc. - so you pick what interests you and join a group (usually 10-20 people). Most cost 12 euros but a few special ones (like the CHOCOLATE tour!) cost around 30 euros.
On my last trip in 2014, my sister and I did a foodie walking tour with Paris by Mouth. It was way more expensive than I usually pay for such a tour - but it was AMAZING! They offer walks in several neighborhoods - we did the Marais one. I'll be choosing another one while I'm there this Fall.
Yes, you can do your own walks following a book or app, but I enjoy having a knowledgeable someone provide interesting info and answer questions.
