Planning a spring trip and in the many sites I've looked at . . it seems that there was a posting in the last day or two about a security notice that people could no longer walk on the beaches . . . Anyone seen this or is it my imagination . . haven't found it since
They do sometimes close the beaches during anniversary ceremonies (June 6) and maybe a day or two before. Otherwise I had not heard of that. Certainly possible though.
Not sure of how recently you came across this notice, but we walked on a few of the beaches on our trip in April this year. It's simply amazing.
We did not walk on the beaches. But there were many people out there. It was very moving to be there and see the memorial to the Americans and to know what took place there. So we really did not see a need to walk on the beach, but if you want to walk on the beach I don't think you will be stopped.
In Aug their were families on the beaches, people horse back riding and people in the water. Not sure why that would change ?
Where was the posting? That is the starting point if it is valid.
By "walk" do you mean a lengthy hike, as the British mean when they say they're going walking? Or do you just mean taking a 15-minute walk along the sand by the water's edge? We saw people doing the latter when we were there on the 70th anniversary of V-E Day.
If you plan an all-day hike (or multiple days) from Point A to Point B along the coast, there could be numerous spots where the beach is not accessible due to various reasons -- but I'm just guessing.
We were just there in September and spent time walking along Utah and Omaha beaches.
OK . . . everyone . . . thanks for your replies . . . guess it was my imagination . . .
