Hi - Just found a cute vrbo right beside The Centre Pompidou - first time to Paris so just wondering if anyone is familiar with the area? Safe? Central enough location? We plan to walk the city and eat good food etc.. Thanks!
Yes, it's central enough -- 15-minute walk to Notre Dame, about the same to the Louvre or Place des Vosges. So yes, you are near some stuff and far away from other stuff. No place will be near everything. What do you mean by safe? If you mean street crime like a stick up or a mugging, most of Paris is safe but you should use the same big city skills that you would use in any big city.
Safe and central - my daughter ( aged 19) and her friend stayed in apartment in the area.
I’d stay in the area myself - it’s great - only issue is make sure it’s a registered rental
Hi - Thanks! The vrbo had a registration number at the end of the listing - it has plenty of good reviews. Is there somewhere to go to verify?
Does the number begin with 75?
Yes it does!
I spent a month in an apartment about 2 blocks from the Pompidou and I loved the area. I was a senior female traveling solo and I found the area perfectly safe and never had any qualms walking around in the area late in the evening or even walking from the metro to my apartment at midnight a couple of times. Loved wandering over to the plaza at the Pompidou in the evenings, at least in the summer there was always something going on.
Hi susanmagenheimer
The area around Centre Pompidou is for sure a very central one, and a good choice.
Juste 2 additional thing to know :
- in the area, most of the buildings are quite old, so in many cases there is no elevator.
- there is one or two busy streets, with lot of trafic and noise. Some other streets have less trafic, but a lot of tourists and passers-by. Sometimes, they can even make more more noise than cars. And finally, some streets are really peaceful.
Renting an apartment myself this May/June directly behind Centre Pompidou.
Enjoy your trip.
If the number begins 75, that should be the official registration number and seeing that is just about all you can do to confirm that the place is a registered rental. Have a great trip.
Thanks everyone, we are booked and looking forward to our trip!
Of course it depends on the specific place, but this is a very noisy area so if that is likely to make sleep difficult for you, be sure to bring ear plugs at least (I always carry them in Europe) and if it is a big deal, a portable white noise machine or app is also useful.
