Volotea Baggage Policy?

My wife and I are flying from Bordeaux to Strasbourg with Volotea in about a month. I'm looking at the baggage policy on their website, and see that the carry-on must be 55x40x20 cm which means the depth has to be less than 7.87 inches. Seems a bit extreme, but I've read that it is normal for many of these low cost European airlines.

Has anyone had any experiences with Volotea? How strict are they with these dimensions? I'm feeling that a dufflebag type may be the best option vs. a "carry-on" with wheels and handles.

I don't have experience with that airline but I do have with other budget carriers.

When they say it, they mean it.

Plan to have your even slightly oversized bag taken from you and placed in the hold; expect to pay big for the privilege. It is cheapest to pay for hold baggage when booking, more expensive if you check a bag unannounced at the airport and most expensive if they force you to check an oversize carry on.

Most budget flights put all or most carry on bags in a sizing box. If it fits, including handles and wheels, you are OK. If it doesn't fit, you pay. There is no gray area. It fits or it doesn't. No "nearly" or "I didn't know".

Some budget carriers are also picky about carry on weight.

Generally you are not allowed to put your bag in the overhead locker sideways. It has to go in wheels first, handle out. If a duffle, same idea. Short end in, long dimension has to allow the door to close, depth allows it to fit in.

Most puddle jumpers like that are not very big.
