visiting the Eiffel Tower

My wife and I are signed up for the Best Of Europe beginning May 17, 2014. We plan to arrive a couple days early in Paris and have a visit to the Eiffel Tower in our sights. I've heard that there can be long lines in order to ride to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Can someone educate me on what options I have or plans I can make ahead of time to avoid spending 1/2 day waiting in a line please? I'm pretty much new to Paris and flying in the dark for the 1st couple of days,

There are pre purchased tickets available.. with time slot entry .
However there are not many and they sell out almost the moment they are released for sale on the website.. i have heard of people going online middle of the night on the day they are released to get their choice of time slot.

Tickets are released three months advance.

Just checked for you.. they are sold out for lift to top in the 16th.. BUT they have two available for the second level at noon on 17th,, the tour never starts till later so you could easily do it then. Don 't worry about tickets to top.. once you get to second level there is a line for tickets to top and it is ALWAYS shorter then line on the ground. I would snap them up NOW.. like hopefully within next hour. Good luck.

Get on the Eiffel Tower website now !

randy.sandoval,

everyone goes thru security so thats a line in itself.

you can walk up to the first level and take the lift from there, but there is still a line. Just so you know there is a line for the bathrooms up top and there are lines to get back down.

i would buy advance tickets if you can and just hope you get a good time/date with nice weather. Then just be happy youre there and not worry about the lines.

sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you.

happy trails.

Oh heck if you are talking about walking up I would ( and have !) walk up to second level .. whats point of walking just to first level and getting in a line,, then getting to second level and getting in line.

Line up for stairs is at the South Pillar.. and is always much shorter then the line for the elevators.

So, if you walk up the stairs to the 1st or 2nd level, do you need to buy a ticket? Also, if you want to go from the 2nd level to the top, do you need a ticket? Merci.

Yes. A cheaper, faster ticket, but yes a ticket.

I dunno .... 1665 steps to the top (I believe)? I'm not sure my 60 year old bones are up to that. Yikes!

Randy, I'll be in France a little before you. Believe it or not, those tickets are already selling out right now. I just bought the only possible tickets for me & my son, and we'll be visiting the night before we leave to come home. I had no idea until a friend told me--thank God she did!

Thank you SO much for the link to the site. I just purchased tickets for the only day available the week that my husband & I will be in Paris - the end of May. These really DO sell out fast. Merci bien!

The website is confusing regarding tickets. For example, if I want to climb the stairs to the 1st or 2nd level, there is a separate ticket (5 euros) for the stairs only. But it does not specify a separate ticket available to take the lift from the 2nd level to the top, only a full lift ticket from the ground to the top (15 euros). Is this the only way to reach the top, whether you climb the stairs or take the full lift, by purchasing a full ticket???

CC you can of course buy a ticket to the summit from the second level.

Randy,
We were there last May. We went mid-week and got on line at about 8:45 am. At 9:30, we were in the first elevator car to the summit.

Unbelieveable - I'm one of those who stayed up until 8:30am Paris time to purchase tickets...constantly refreshing. As soon as the website let me through, all tix were gone. Just absolutely unbelieveable!

Tim,, what dates.. did you also try for tickets to second level?

Keep trying. The first time I went to the site there were no tix available for any of the days of our week and finally just two times available on one of the days so I grabbed them. So keep trying (and good luck)!
