I will be traveling with an older traveler in their late 80s- they are able to walk ok- slower- but are unable to do stairs. We would like to visit Normandy and then spend time in Paris for few days. I am trying to figure out what would be the best way to do this trip. I have been told there are some good river cruises that would cover Normandy- that could be a possibility. Or perhaps to find a tour company in Normandy that would be able to accommodate a senior with private tours, easy walking etc. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thank you

We did a Seine River Boat tour with Normandy as a primary reason we booked the tour. My husband had never been. I had taken a tour to Normandy beaches years ago and saw all the beaches and museums all in one day.
Our tour to Normandy was very good, however we only visited Utah beach. The impactful American Cemetery is right there, too. Many on our cruise moved slower and were older. There were no issues, but some people could not get down the worn, narrow stairs to see inside a pill box. I didn't even go into it because it was too crowded with people trying to get in and out the same way. There was ample time to visit the cemetery and associated buildings, like the chapel. The cemetery is flat and easy to walk. My husband loved the tour and was so glad to see and experience history.
If Normandy light is ok with you, the River boat would be a fine option. There are elevators on the boats, too. Your senior can have their space and freedom and you will be less stressed. If you are wanting to see the Canadian and British areas as well, you would need to look into another tour that focuses just on Normandy Beaches. The nice thing about the River Boat Cruise, at least the one we were on, they transport you all over the place via private coach. You don't have to navigate the metro stairs or hire a car/taxi while on tour. Just choose your cruise wisely.

A river cruise on a ship that has flights of stairs between levels, and may require stairs to get on or off the ship doesn't sound like a good fit for someone who can't do stairs Not all river cruises have elevators, . Similarly, a tour company would require the ability to climb on and off a bus with steps, and to keep up with the group as they walk from place to place.
You may be better served by travelling independently. Rent a car to tour the places in Normandy that interest you, and perhaps hire a guide for the DDay beaches.. Ensure your hotels are step free and have on site parking. If you do this you will need to get an International Driver's Permit before you leave home. In Paris, using buses or taxis will be easier for your senior than the Metro, which may not have step free access.
