Visiting Avignon

Hi all,

We are in Aix-en-Provence and planning to take the bus to Avignon for the day. I would love recommendations on what to see during a day trip as well as your thoughts on what day to go or not to go.

Our 25-year old daughter is only available on Sunday to go with us, however, if Avignon is like Aix, the town might be very quiet. Here, most shops and many restaurants are closed. I would suggest anyone who wants to visit Aix NOT come on a Sunday or Monday. Is it the same with Avignon? I am thinking we should go during the week and she will just have to miss it.

Also, I'd love to find a walking tour of Avignon if someone has a recommendation.

You can check the websites of the Palais des Papes an any museum you're interested in to see the current days and hours of operation. Assuming the buses are running, you could hop on the bus across the river to Villeneuve-les-Avignon and walk around. If your guidebook doesn't cover Villeneuve, Wikipedia or TripAdvisor will identify the sights for you so you can check their hours if any sound interesting.
