visit to wine country

I'm planning some overnight trips from Paris to wine country. I though Bordeaux but would like to hear suggestions and experiences. I love all French wines

Almost every region of France is a wine-producing region, each with its own renowned wines, at least among wine enthusiasts.

Since you can find Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Champagne all over the world, sp take advantage of being in France to discover something new, you'll be spoiled for choice.

How far are you willing to travel. Car or public transportation?

If you're looking for easy travel from Paris head to Alsace. I'm not a fan of Alsatian wines, but the villages are lovely and there's some great restaurants.

Maybe the Loire Valley for some Vouvray. The Northern Rhone region produced some nice Syrahs and Viogniers.

This past September, we went to a wonderful “blind tasting” wine bar for dinner in Dijon (in the Burgundy region), Le Caveau de Saulx. (No reservation needed). We had a nice wine bar tasting and small plate experience in Colmar as well, at Aux Temps d’un Verre. Again, no rez needed

And we enjoyed a wine tastings at wineries that we arranged a little south of Beaune in Burgundy at a winery called Bader-Mimeur and Alsace at Kuentz-Bas

In both Alsace and Burgundy, we arranged the winery tastings in advance. This seems pretty standard, unlike California wineries where you just show up. Look to regional tourism sites, such as

Or

It’s far more of an experience and an education in France.

We love wine and have visited many of the regions in France and around the world.

One very enjoyable experience though was in Paris itself. We went for a Tastes of France experience at Oh Chateau.

It was a very enjoyable tasting that allowed us to taste the difference between the various regions.

I highly recommend it.
