Heading to Nice to Florence to Venice to Munich over 2 weeks May 14-31. Should we reverse our travel due to Cannes Festival? We are not interested in the festival at all - wondering how busy it usually is? Also, any thoughts on these cities please?
A hotel may cost unreasonably more in Nice during the Cannes Film Festival, that's about it.
Florence is crowded with English speaking tourists and the petty criminals they attract all year round if that's what you want to avoid.
That's a good time of year for Venice before the summer tourist season so I would make that first or second stop in your itinerary
Having been to Nuremberg, Frankfurt. Bamberg, Rothenburgh ob de Tauber, Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg, Koln, Aachen, Stuttgart, Augsburg, Lubeck, and Fussen, Munich is the most over rated touted tourist attraction city in Germany I found. But It depends on what you are interested in.
The Cannes film festival is a trade fair for showbiz rather than welcoming the casual fan.
Taxi drivers from other southern towns head for the money, sometimes making it hard to raise a cab in their bases.
We arrived in Nice not realizing that we would have to deal with the crowds from the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Gran Prix! We had our hotel room booked but the crowds from both Cannes and Monaco made finding places to have dinner a problem. Check the dates in Cannes and Monaco and try to avoid staying in Nice at those times.
