We will be visiting the Dordogne region in early October and would like to know the best wineries to visit for tasting/buying wine. Not interesting so much in the Grand Cru wines but rather good value wines
Frankly, I don't remember seeing vineyards in the Dordogne. The region is noted for walnuts, foie gras, and truffles. There may be vineyards to the west toward Bordeaux.
Just to clarify, I was talking about vineyards between Bordeaux and Sarlat
There are plenty of vineyards in the Bergerac area -- the Bergerac appellation is for red, white and rose; there's also Monbazillac and Saussignac AOC's for sweet wines. Then there is Pecharment, in the same general area. I remember visiting Chateau de Tiregand many years ago and enjoying the place and their wines. Then just south in the Lot Department are a lot of good red wines, principally Cahors AOC. We just visited one, Domaine de Cause, 2 weeks ago.
