Vineyard to visit in Chateauneuf du Pape

Hi folks. We are heading to the Provence area next week (nearer Gordes). Wanted to do an afternoon visit to a vineyard in Chateauneuf du Pape, looking for recommendations. Vineyards with pretty grounds, a Chateau-like atmosphere, and a nice friendly (but not overcrowded) vibe. We are not looking to visit the vineyards 'with the absolute best wines' (as we assume those will be crowded), but rather a nice place with very good wines we could ship (but not spend the kids college fund on). Was looking at Château de la Gardine, that looks up-our-alley... any others you can recommend?

MANY thanks! My first post on Rick Steves, but I've been reading them for a long time. Figured it was time to 'get on board'!

Welcome to the Forum! I'm basically commenting so your post will pop up to the top of France queue.

We visited a Vineyard in CduP in 2014 as part of a Provence Panorama tour from Avignon. I can't recall the name, but someone on this forum was quick to let me know that it was "middle of the road".

Welcome to the forum!

Back in 2018, my husband and I did a half-day tour from Avignon that went to Orange and then stopped at a winery in Châteauneuf du Pape. Unfortunately, I do not remember the name of the winery. We booked through this tour company. Are you planning to drive? When it comes to visiting wineries, it's nice to let someone else take the wheel. Or, you can do what the woman leading our tasting did in Châteauneuf du Pape; she spit out every sip. Of course, she was very pregnant at the time.

On this same trip, we did a full-day wine tour with this company out of Nice. It was a nice relaxing day, and the three wineries we visited were different enough to keep it interesting.
