We are planning a trip to the Provence region and are considering making Villeneuve les Avignon our base. We will need to go into Avignon proper for dinner or are they enough restaurant choices in Villeneuve les Avignon? Is there a town square with shops and restaurants?

We stayed there and the main problem was that you had to go through Avignon’s traffic to go visit other towns and villages. Yes, there are places to dine locally.
Villeneuve-lès-Avignon is underrated (due to the proximity to Avignon), there are some interesting sights there, and it's a good base. Convenient to Nîmes, Arles, Pont du Gard...
