Villages to Stay: Bordeaux Left Bank and Right Bank 3 nights each

Bonjour! Need help!

This May we would like to visit Bordeaux after LaGuardia in Alta Rioja and before Espelette.

Although “everyone” says ‘stay in the city’, we prefer the villages instead of the city, which we would visit once or twice.

Are there left bank villages that you would recommend with walkable restaurants? Our plan would ve to visit Medoc area wineries on one day snd the Dunes on another.

Are there right bank villages that you recommend from which to explore St. Emilion and other right bank wineries and sights? And perhaps a trip back to the city for a day.

Looking for a comfortable village with good local good and easy access to the road for other day trips.

I had thought of visiting La Roque de Gageac etc. from the right bank but I think it would be be too long a day.

I don't have recs for where to stay or eat, but I will say that La Roque Gageac is too much for a day trip. The drive is about 3 1/2 hours each way. And there is no train to it. You would need a car for that area. Do have a visit to the Dordogne area on another trip, rent a car, and spend at least 5 days (more if you can).

Hi,

I've got some answers to your questions.

Are there left bank villages that you would recommend with walkable restaurants? Our plan would ve to visit Medoc area wineries on one day snd the Dunes on another. There are a few villages where you could stay in the Medoc. Margaux is a midway point or you could go further north and stay in Paulliac or Saint-Estephe. There are a handful of good restaurants in each commune, but they will likely not be walking distance from your hotel or B&B. The sand dunes will be a bit of a drive from the Medoc.

Are there right bank villages that you recommend from which to explore St. Emilion and other right bank wineries and sights? And perhaps a trip back to the city for a day. I'd recommend that you stay in Saint-Emilion. There are a few good restaurants in the town. Albeit, they can be a little pricey. There are a few wineries that you could stay at as well, Franc Mayne and Valandraud both have guest houses.

I'd highly recommend that you take a look at Sauvistication (www.sauvistication.com). It's a website designed to teach people how to navigate Bordeaux.
