My wife and I will be returning to Paris after a 2-night stay in Avignon in May, and are looking for a nice, interesting village to spend the night somewhere between the two. We'd have a bit of time to explore the place as well. We are traveling by train down to Avignon from Paris initially, and our preference is to also return by train. But we could rent a car once in Avignon and return to Paris that way, if it would be more advantageous. Leaving Avignon on a Thursday and need to arrive in Paris by Friday evening. Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
We stopped in Beaune between Paris and Avignon!
Thanks very much for your suggestions, scythian. I think that Besancon will work out well for us and looks like a delightful place to visit. Appreciate your detailed information.
Dijon is lovely, right along the train line. The warm local stone on half timbered buildings, cute shops, local haunts, this town is quiet after dark when the tourists leave. We chose Dijon because it was along the train line, but it's also easy for you drivers.
