Vaux-le-Vicomte Candlelight visit advice?

Has anyone done the “candlelight tour” at Vaux-le-Vicomte? I’m looking for any advice on this or general feedback on the place. I’m not sure how long I should plan on being there.

We did the Candlelight Evening last summer. It is lovely! A couple of things to note: when it gets dark, it is REALLY dark! The candles are lovely, but the cobblestone walkway is difficult after dark. Our friend fell flat on her face! Also, our biggest issue was that we took the train from Paris, but it was incredibly slow and arrived late so the shuttle bus was not at the station to take us to the chateau. There were 13 of us waiting. We tried everything: calling, emailing, etc. No bus. My husband and our friend had to talk a guy in a pizza(?) place across the street to drive us out there. So there we were speeding through rural France with some guy we don't know, and he seemed a little unsure about where we were going. He didn't really speak English very well. We made it, and we were glad we did because there were no more trains that evening. It is one of those experiences we will laugh about for years to come!

The guided tour on the headset is really well done! The family type restaurant food was very good. The chateau and grounds are gorgeous.

All in all, it is a beautiful experience, but I would not take the last train again. The shuttle bus that takes you back to Paris was great because it drops you off by Gare de Lyon, and our hotel was a block from the drop off point. You have to buy tickets ahead of time for that shuttle.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely! Go earlier and plan on a couple of hours even before dark.

Enjoy!

In case you want to google it, it is Vaux-le-Vicomte, not Vieux.
