Vézère valley recommendations, please

Inspired by the “Bruno, Chief of Police” books, I am visiting the Vézère Valley mid-June, starting with 4 days in Uzerche (30 miles north of Brive-la-Gaillard). I will have a car. Any ideas for interesting towns, sites, restaurants will be welcome. Note that I have already visited the Dordogne region.

Hi I know this part of France, but in my opinion your question is not specific enough. You say that you have already visited the Dordogne region, ok, but the south of Corrèze is in Dordogne valley. Have you yet visited Collonges la Rouge, Turenne or Beaulieu sur Dordogne, for ex ?
Do you want to do day trips in the "plateau de Millevaches", or do you want to stay in the valley of the Vézère ?

Hi, thanks very much for your reply, and sorry I was not more specific. A few years ago I visited the Dordogne more towards the south and into Lot. I visited several of the smaller caves. Some of the towns I visited were (please forgive me if I don’t spell the names correctly) Sarlat, Souillac, Beygnac, Rocamador, Leas Eyzies, Saint-Leon de Vézère . You mentioned some places that I should probably put on my itinerary, which is exactly the kind of information I was seeking. I’m not married to the Vézère Valley per se, but Uzerche will be my base and I plan to take day trips. Caves, though wonderful, are not on my list. I especially love visiting charming towns and just soaking up the atmosphere — but it always helps to have a general goal/direction in mind. And I’d hate to miss something I should have seen. Since I am traveling alone I am extremely flexible. Again, since I’m finding it hard to get “tourist” information on this area, I am grateful for any suggestions. Maybe just an idea of towns/places in the region that I should check out further.

PS. I will definitely look into the places you mentioned. I’d also like to add that this is a sudden trip with only 10 days to plan.

Hi this part of the Vézère valley is not as the Dordogne, there is not a quaint village every 5 km, so, in my opinion, you will have to drive to other parts of the Corrèze. For ex, Chaumeil, at the foot of the hills named "monédières", or Egletons, and near Egletons, Ventadour castle. In Corrèze there are also many lakes, where generally it's possible to bath. In a circle of 80 km around Uzerche, you will have much things to do and see, but not in a circle of 30 km. That is the difference with Dordogne.

This is very helpful. I am only starting in Uzerche. Do you recommend that I change my location to the Corrèze? Or Egleton?

Hi

Uzerche is more beautiful than Egletons, but Egletons give the possibility to do day trips in Auvergne, ( the "Monts Dore" and the "Puy de Sancy",) or in the Cantal mounts ( Salers or he "Puy Mary). It's also nearer than Uzerche from a part of the Dordogne valley you have not visited (Between Argentat sur Dordogne and Beaulieu sur Dordogne). In Egletons there is also a little lake with a beach.
Personally, I would stay in Egletons. From there it's easy to visit Uzerche.

I want to thank you so much for your advice. Based on what you have shared I am rethinking my plans and will shorten my visit in Uzerche. Since I am an older person and not so much an outdoors person, I will investigate further south, but I while I am based in Uzerche I will visit some of the places you suggested. It is so difficult to get information about places that don’t have a chapter in the guide books. Again, your generosity has been so helpful!
