Vezelay

We will be traveling by train from Beaune enroute to Paris and have an extra day. Any suggestion on how to see Vezelay? Logistics? Should we rent a car someplace and drive to Vezelay for a half day?

Vezelay has no train service and little bus service. Here’s a map of the Burgundy train lines. https://www.sncf-connect.com/assets/media/2021-11/bourgognefranchecomte.pdf
The towns throughout Burgundy are small, charming but with few car rental options except at the large supermarkets.
The local trains can be horribly long to get anywhere, so a car convenient.

My suggestion requires keeping a car a 24 hours and using the extra day to see more of Burgundy than only Vezelay. You can rent a car in Dijon, which will have the largest selection, and drive to Vezelay, then see other sights such as Avallon, the hilltop village of Montréal, Auxerre, or the town of Chablis, or the chateau being constructed in Guédelon 45 minutes west of Auxerre, drive to Orly the next morning and return the car. From there you can take a metro or fixed rate taxi to your hotel in Paris.

Guédelon is unique and constructed with the use of local materials and medieval tools as much as possible. So certainly worth to visit, but check opening times first. Know it will be closed after Sunday the 2nd of November till April next year. No idea why, exceptionally opened 6 and 7 December. It's a bit located in the middle of nowhere, you certainly need a car to get there.
