Veuve Clicquot + Paris in October

I am heading with a group of 4 to Paris from Oct 24 - Nov 2. We'll arrive on a Friday and are looking at doing a day trip to Reims on Sunday. We'd like to visit Veuve Clicquot but it looks like it is a 45 min walk from the station. Do you know if ubers or taxis are easy to get when in town? Or is it best to reserve transportation beforehand (or budget the time for a long meander)?

This would also be the first thing we book for our trip in October, which feels early but the Yellow Label tour isn't available from 28-31. Should I wait to book the tours in Reims until I've booked the "must sees" in Paris? I may be a little gun-shy because I've been reading so much about the craziness of booking sites during the summer but I know its the Olympics!

Thanks very much!

Try emailing [email protected]. I have taken the train to Reims 3 times and each time, there were taxis at the station but I have never traveled there on a Sunday. Maybe the visitor center can tell you if taxis will be at the station on Sundays or give you he names of some local taxi companies.

My huband and I took the train from Paris to Reims on a Wednesday in August 2022. There was a line of taxis outside the station and we had no trouble getting one to take us to our hotel right away. When we toured the champagne houses we were picked up by the Viator driver.

We did a day trip to Reims on a Sunday last year. We walked into town from the train station and then walked over to one of the champagne houses - it was right by the Vueve Cliquot one you’re interested in.

I can’t comment on the cabs, but I will say that we were a little bummed that we chose Sunday for Reims. A LOT of stuff was closed and so we didn’t see everything that Reims had to offer. It’s a great city!

We did have time for the Surrender Museum, which is right by the train station and is worth an hour if you’re into WW2 history: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g187137-d230796-Reviews-Museum_of_the_Surrender-Reims_Marne_Grand_Est.html

We also stopped at the main cathedral - Cathedral Notre-Dame de Reims. It was great - but later on, trying to find the champagne houses, we stumbled across the Basilica Saint-Remi - from 1049. If you can find it, poke your head in there. The stained glass is fabulous.

Final note about Sunday closures: we missed all the city museums since it was Sunday. And then the hardest thing was that almost every restaurant was closed. We finally just grabbed bags of snack food from a grocery store and ate on the steps of nearby plaza.

I do recall cabs at the train station as we walked out - but if a cab is crucial, more accurate info them my fading memory might be better:)

RainyIvy,
If you can switch to another day in Reims, I would advise you to switch due to Sunday closures. Aside from the champagne tastings, I would definitely not skip the cathedral, not just for its beauty, but because nearly all of the kings of France were crowned there, beginning with Louis Premier in 816. We bookmarked our 2017 trip to France with a visit to St.Denis Basiica in Paris, where so many of the kings and queens are interred. The Cathedral is, of course, open on Sundays and if you want, you could attend a mass there.
Reims is well worth a day trip from Paris. Enjoy!
