Spending Friday morning next week in Chartres, lunch in town then heading to Versailles.
If we don’t pre-purchase a timed entry ticket, are the ticket lines something to worry about this time of year?

Even during slow times, I would venture to say that you may have quite a long wait in line to purchase tickets to Versailles. The day of the week matters also. However, I have read on this forum that sometimes going later in the day makes things go more quickly. Maybe you could go online right now and secure an entry time? Best of luck!
October is not low season in Paris -- spring and fall are both more pleasant times to travel and so people who don't have to follow the school calendar book then.
