Can someone explain how the Museum Pass works for Versailles? I have read about getting a timed entry ticket as well. Do I need both for entrance and what parts do they cover? Appreciate any info on this topic! We are going late September.
The museum pass simply is your admission ticket - you will still wait in the sometimes ( usually ) very long security line - if you’re not there at least 45-60 minutes BEFORE it opens !
You also will not have admission to the Kings Apartments , which are only allowed on a private small group tour basis that has a timed entry with separate security from masses .
With your museum pass you can buy a supplement to do Kings Tour and I recommend it - goes on official Versailles website to purchase and select time slot . That way you skip the horrendous lines and will have a better experience.
I love Versailles , have been many times over several decades ( since early 70s ) and my last time was about 5 hrs ago now - it’s simply become too busy and crowded now to enjoy the palace ( the grounds and gardens being so large never fee crowded however ) . It’s like a sweaty mosh pit in main areas of palace now - take the Kings Apartment tour if you’d like to enjoy the experience of the palace rather than endure it
Thank you, I will look into that!
You can't get a timed entry and also use the Museum Pass except the KAT already mentioned which is in addition to the pass. I would get there an hour early and just use the Museum Pass Myself especially on a hot day when adding another 90 minutes of touring onto the front end of the trip may be exhausting.
Best is to not use a museum pass for this but time your pass to be before or after you start using the Museum Pass and get a timed entry instead.
