Versailles Website or Tour

Is it better to use the Versailles website to plan a visit or should we choose a skip-the-line tour or other tour package?

Thanks

For me, I always prefer to book with the venue rather than a 3rd party. Just a quick glance at the Versailles website tells me it would be easy to book your time slot and extras such as a guided tour directly there.

Thanks. That helps. I'm concerned that the Versailles website reservation system may be one of those things where you need five computers to make sure that you can get the time slot you want or maybe not get a time slot at all. I think I may reserve a tour that can be canceled as a back up plan since I can't reserve through the Versailles site for another two months.

Not sure when you're looking to book, but I had no trouble at all booking timed entry on the day we plan to go in June; most times were available. I didn't mark a date on the calendar to check as I'm doing for the Eiffel Tower, I just arranged it when I got around to it. YMMV, of course.

This is my first time posting so I’m not sure if I’m doing it correctly. I’m attempting to book a tour at Versailles & the on line booking site continues to reject my credit card. I’m having the same issue with The Louvre & Palace Garnier. My card processed without issue when I finally used Viator. Has anyone else had similar problems?

Thank you

Thanks @meg99. I'm booking in September. I'm also wondering if the Paris Museum Pass covers the full Passport admission to Versailles. Does anyone know?

Oh the 'myth' of "skip the line" Yep, early March in Paris... Woman walks to the front of the Louvre security check line and announces "I bought a skip the line tour" and waves her ticket at the man confirming that everyone in the security line had a ticket. He smiles and sends her to the back of the security line.... she puts up a fight. He quits smiling and demands she go to the back of the line. She storms off to the back doing a toddler fit screaming about her "skip the line tour" and "I am never coming here again" while people laugh at her act!

Annie I expect your card rejected because they were "protecting" you from unauthorized purchases in Europe. You probably should have contacted the card issuer to let them know what was going on. Viator charges as a US company so you don't get that problem but you do get charged a markup for the "convivence" of having a middleman.

Thanks Meg99. That confirms what I thought. It seems I'll have to buy tickets for the musical show separately.
