Versailles tickets

Hello
We will be in Paris in May, and planning one day to visit Versailles.

I am on the Official Versailles Pallace ticket site. Is the passport ticket the most comprehensive?
it let's you choose date and time.

The passport looks to be around $35 per person.

So is the passport with a time reservation considered a "skip the line" ? I assume not, but don't understand the difference.
and where would we purchase skip the line tickets?

I heard Rick say to get a museum pass in order to skip the line but are there other options just for the Versailles and possibly also the Louvre?

There is really no such thing as “skip the line” tickets. There is a line for security most places and no ticket exempts you from that.

A timed entry will be an excellent purchase and will get you in as quickly as possible.

If I remember correctly even with the RS Paris tour we had to wait to go thru the security line as a group at Versailles. In Rome, on the RS Best of Italy tour, when they were including the Vatican, we all stood in line for probably 45 minutes.

Usually at Versailles, you will have perimeter security (didn't have it last time we visited but did the time before) at the main gate -- goes fast. Then you find the line for your time slot and stand in that. As Pam noted, there is no such thing as a skip the line ticket -- vendors that tout those do not have access to a different ticket product. The closest thing to that is to get the Kings Apartment Tour. With that you meet in a special lounge and then go into a different entrance for the private apartments -- the tour is about 90 minutes and yoiu are then deposited into the main public areas of the palace where you proceed on your own. I don't think it is worth it, but if you have not seen many chateau you might find it more interesting than I did.
