Versailles Tickets

We travel to Paris next weekend and plan to visit Versailles on Sep 12. we will be buying PMP once we reach Paris.

we are planning to reach Versailles by 9am and visit the palace first thing. i was planning to buy guided tour for that day to ensure we can enter the palace with the group. But guided tours are sold out for that date.

Question is how big are the lines first thing in morning and approx how long it can take to enter Palace with PMP? if it is going to take too long (like an hour) i will just time timed passport for us.

thanks

I'm working on a trip to Paris and plan to see Versailles also. All the information I have says its crazy busy first thing in the morning. Apparently you are better off to visit the grounds etc. first and got to the palace in the afternoon. Hope that helps.

I would get there at 8:15 if my plan was to use the PMP for entry. This should put you fairly close to the head of the long long long security/entrance line; certainly no later than 8:30. If you arrive at 9 am expect to spend up to two hours in the entry line.

I was there a week ago with a timed ticket for 10:00am entry. Not knowing what to expect, I got there around 9:30am and we waited about 5 minutes to get through security and that was it.

The other line was already ridiculously long and snaked all the way across the courtyard so I'd echo the previous post -get there plenty early - I'm guessing it was at least an hour long wait by 9:30 if not longer. Side note: My wife didn't realize I bought timed entry tickets so the look on her face when we bypassed the Disneyland space mountain-esque line and walked right in was priceless.

Great story. I always make the travel arrangements and have that pleasure too of walking my husband right by a blocks long line. Unfortunately timed tickets for exhibits in Paris don't work quite as well. You are better off with timed tickets but even then waiting at least half an hour maybe more is standard -- at the Louvre (we waited 90 minutes for our Vermeer entry with timed tickets), the Grand Palais and the exhibit at Villette for King Tut both took about half an hour in line to get in with timed tickets.
