When I was in Paris last year we took the rer C from the station at the orsay Museum to Versailles Rive Gauche. I am planning a trip for a friend in September, and it appears that the rer C does not have a stop now at the Museum D'Orsay? Does anyone know if this is the case? My Google Maps is telling me to take the rer C from Les invalides.
The RER C is perpetually down in central Paris for one thing or another -- floods, repairs, yadda yadda. When we went to Versailles this past year we had to get to Champ du Mars to get the train as it was not running in Central Paris. Some have had to get to Javel to pick it up.
And the point in the message below this is spot on --- google maps should never be used for public transport -- it is totally misleading many places. Use https://www.ratp.fr. or city mapper.
You should use RATP.fr for your transit directions. Google maps is, shockingly enough to those of us like me who think that Google knows everything, not the best source for mass transit information in Paris. In any event, it could be that the station is closed for work or some such thing. Enter your date at ratp.fr/en and see what it says.
Parisbytrain.com explains that service disruptions on RER C in Paris on weekends/holidays through 12/29 are planned for repairing the tracks.
I was just helping someone who wanted to go from the Musée d’Orsay stop to Versailles tomorrow (Saturday) but Google Maps directed them from the RER C Invalides stop, i suspect the Orsay stop is closed for repairs - that it is not a problem with Google Maps.
Hi,
RER C is closed in all of central Paris between 15 Jul and 24 Aug (trains to/from Versailles start/end at Javel), and closed between Invalides and Musée d'Orsay every weekend for the foreseeable future.
Depending on your starting point, your best bet might be to take the train to Versailles Chantiers from Montparnasse. From Chantiers, the Palace is not as close, you can walk 15-20 minutes or take a bus.
stacy, if you originally wanted to get on the RER at the Orsay i’d just walk down to the Invalides stop if you’re able, or take the bus. It’s not far (1 km). and the easiest solution if your starting point is the Orsay.
