Versailles on the weekend

I’ve been reading different posts on this form about Versailles. I really wanna go for the water show so that would mean I’d have to go Saturday or Sunday. I’ll be there August 25 through September 1. originally we were thinking of going on a Tuesday but according to their website the fountains were supposed to be on Tuesdays but now it says they’re only on Saturday Sunday.

Has anyone been there recently for the fountains? is it worth it to go when they are on? I think it will be, but my travel companion does not seem to care one way or another.

Also I thought the museum pass covered Versailles but now I’m reading other people are saying the museum pass is not the way to go because you have to get a timed entry and pay 2x. I’m hoping to be there as soon as possible and spend the entire day. Has anyone done this recently? Is the museum pass not worth it for Versailles?

Thank you!

I’m in Versailles now. The night fountain/firework show has been a highlight of my trip. It is absolutely beautiful! I spent the night in Versailles and then I reserved a 09:00 am ticket for entry to the palace. Just check in the status of the RER C train that goes to Versailles . It is under construction. I had to come by way of the SNCF train from LaDefense. The southern parts of the RER C and B trains are a mess right now. The C train is suppose to be back open ( you can’t go past the d’Orsay stop right now) August 20.

The Paris Museum Pass covers the entry to the chateau itself. If going on a musical/fountains show day, you have to pay the extra for the entry to the gardens themselves. I made a 9am reservation for the chateau with our museum pass and added on the 10Euro for the garden entrance as it was a Friday musical gardens day when we were there. We did really enjoy seeing the three fountains that are on during the musical gardens days: the Mirror Pool, Neptune Fountain, and the Water Theater. I think the Mirror Pool was my favorite.

If you've been to the Chateau before, you could just buy the gardens pass and do that. I think that would be much more relaxing and worthwhile than doing the inside again. Doing the inside + all the gardens + the Trianon is a lot in one day. Make sure to take food + water so you can eat while you're there, or buy in a cafe on the grounds.

As for the RER C, there are several posts, but there is a different set of RERC disruptions btw Invalides and Paris Austerlitz while you are there as they are getting ready to close the Notre Dame St Michel Stop. Looks like if you get on at Invalides going west to Versailles Rive Gauche, you should be ok. But I would highly recommend using the RATP website/app to check your planned routes as it will tell you what've available for your planned days.
