Versailles fireworks...then to CDG the next morning

Hi,
For our last night in Paris (Sat July 6) I am considering visiting Versailles, purchasing the combined Royal Serenade and Night Fountains/fireworks show link. I'm trying to figure out logistics of a late night at Versailles followed by a flight home from CDG the following day.

We are a family of four with two young teens. This will be the end of a 16 night trip, with 9 nights in London/Bath/Oxford and 7 nights in Paris. Our Paris lodging is in an Airbnb near Place des Vosges in the Marais.

The Versailles fireworks end around 11 pm I believe. We fly home out of CDG at 12:30 pm the following day (Sun July 7), so will need to arrive at CDG around 9 am or earlier. So we only have about ~9 hours between when the fireworks end and when we'll need to depart for the airport.

With that in mind, do you think its better for us to:

1) stay overnight in Versaille before heading to CDG, which would require:

  • check out of Paris Airbnb a day earlier than currently planned
  • bring our luggage (one big backpack per person) to Versaille
  • drop luggage at Versaille hotel around 1 pm
  • visit Versaille in the afternoon/evening
  • get back to Versaille hotel around 11:30 pm
  • take taxi to CDG, leaving ~8 am

2) stay in Paris after Versailles (in our current Airbnb) which would require

  • pack our bags before Versaille but leave them in our Paris Airbnb
  • visit Versaille in the afternoon/evening
  • hustle back to trains station for late train back to Paris, arrive back at our Airbnb around 1 am?
  • take taxi to CDG, leaving ~8 am

I think both these ideas are a bit aggressive given the flight but it seems like a potentially great end to our trip.

9 am is more than early enough to arrive for a 12:30 flight. A taxi from your Airbnb will be a flat fee for all of you, and on a Sunday morning should take no more than 45 min, if that. Leaving any time around 8:30 should be fine.
The RER/Metro should get you to your Airbnb before 1am. All else being equal, and since everyone can cat nap in the taxi and sleep on the plane if they're really tired. I'd just stay in Paris if it was me. My kids usually considered 1 am still early when they were teens.

Not sure what a taxi from Versailles would cost, but it will be a lot more than from your Airbnb.

I agree with CJean. I see no real benefit to spending the night in Versailles even if you have to take an Uber back to Paris.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking it might be more efficient to go from Versailles to CDG than Versailles to Marais to CDG. But I do agree there is some added hassle in this idea. I’m now leaning towards staying in Paris.

the issue is how late the train runs from Versailles to Paris. but even if I had to arrange a cab from Versailles to Paris, that is what I would do. You want transport on the day of the flight to be easy; be in Paris.
