What time in the morning can you rent a bike at Versailles (June- not sure if ithe concession opens when the gardens open or when the chateau opens) .....and if you can ride anywhere, including the garden or?

I don't remember what time they open - sorry! I will say that you should get there as early as you can to insure that you get the better bikes and that they won't run out.
The bikes can only be used outside of the formal fountain gardens that directly surround the palace and run down to the Grand Canal. Anywhere in the park is generally fine. There are many kilometers of roads and pathways to explore. Anywhere that you can't take the bikes is clearly marked but there aren't many places that are off limits. Use them to go out the both the Grand and Petite Trianon, the Petite Hameau, out through the wheat fields (which should just be coming up in June) and around through the woods on the south side of the Grand Canal. It's wonderful to get away from the crowds and find the hidden corners of the chateau grounds - it's one of my favorite things to do while in France!

Just trying to make sure you understand: you can't ride bikes in the main areas of Versailles where all the people are, for safety reasons.
