Versaille to Normandy

Can anyone give me advice on how to most efficiently travel direct from Versaille to Bayeux or the DDay Beaches? I would even consider getting to Rouen if its easier. I would be travelling with my family (4 in all) and would have already travelled to Versaille from Paris early that morning by train. After touring Versaille, I'm trying to avoid having to go back to Paris to get to the Normandy Beach area for the night, with the intent of touring the DDay beaches the next day. It looks to me like all trains go back to Paris from Versaille. Are there car rental options in Versaille?

Trains to Normandy leave Paris from Gare St Lazare.

You can get to Gare St Lazare by RER train from Versailles Rive Droite station in 37 minutes.

We envisioned doing the same, and looked without success for a way to rent an automatic transmission car from Versailles on the day when we would be there. We ended up doing Versailles as a day trip from Paris, returning to our hotel in Paris, and picking up our rental car the next day. This was a couple of years ago so rental car availability may have changed.

If you do end up renting out of Paris, and your destination is Normandy, I would pick up the car at CDG airport. From there you can get onto the main highways without having to drive through Paris city traffic.

Another possible alternative is to pick up your rental car at Orly and drive to Versailles, then proceed to Normandy from there.
