Vernon - Gateway to Giverny

Hi
I've recently read an article about Vernon the town where most people arrive for their trip to Giverny. I was interested in seeing the town as part of my trip to Giverny. Has anyone spent time there? Walks - Food - museums???/

It looked like pretty much any small town that I have seen hundreds of around France.

I filled the tank of my car at the Carrefour, and I found a great pharmacy which sold me a blue machine to put on my DVT socks on.

Loved Giverny

IMO, Giverny is where you want to spend your time, for the reason given by Nigel.
If you have 10 minutes to kill at Vernon's train station, walk over and get a quiche or sandwich for your train trip at Boulangerie/Patisserie Rose.

Well, I'll admit that it was 30 years ago, but we took the train to Vernon from Paris, as a budget outing to Giverny. The bar bathroom near the train station was, according to my wife, the worst bar toilet she ever saw in her life. Anyway, then we rented bicycles and rode on a bikeway to Giverny. As the previous answer said, this is not a remote or unsophisticated part of France. Museums? How are the museums in Belmont, MA or Shaker Heights, OH? (I've lived in both of those.) That's what we're talking about. Giverny: Worth the trip.

We were in Vernon a few years ago and the most enjoyable stop was near the bridge that crosses the Seine. There are remnants of a former bridge that had timbered houses as part of the bridge. There appears to be one house left. Just down from Giverny.

We did a Fat Tire Bike Tour and took the train from Paris to Vernon. Picked up some sandwiches and got the bikes. It was market day (Friday, may be there on other days too) and there was a veterans parade. Small town, couple of restaurants, grocery store and a church. We enjoyed Giverny and Monet's home and gardens.
